LURA EVELYN RUWE was born to Fred and Cora (Lyons) Hovendick September 9, 1917, on a farm in Washington County, Nebraska. She passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at the age of 93-years and 6-months at Golden Living Center Nursing Home in Tekamah.

When she was a little girl, Lura moved with her family from Nebraska to a sod house near Cheyenne Wells, Colorado. Her dad was a farmer and hoped to prosper there. But, after a long period of drought and poor crops, the family returned to Nebraska and began farming in the Herman area. She attended New England country school through the ninth grade.

She was helping a neighbor with some of the household work when she met her future husband, Delmar Ruwe. On August 22, 1943, Lura and Delmar were married at the home of her parents. They had four children. She was a dearly beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend.

Lura was a member of Alder Grove Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible school for years. She had a wide variety of interests. She was an avid reader and enjoyed all kinds of books. Lura really loved to garden, play piano, do all kinds of needlework and sewing, artwork, crafts, and projects of many kinds. She spent a lot of her time helping teach her children and grandchildren to cook, sew, play piano and garden. She lived her life with kindness, generosity, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to help others. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her!

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Delmar (November 1977); brothers, Roland and Bob; brother-in-law, Jerry Rennerfeldt; sister-in-law, Lucille Hovendick; son-in-law,Steve McElravy.
