World War II Figure. He is remembered as a soldier of the Czechoslovak army, who became a Nazi collaborator. Members of his team of Free Czech agents in Prague were involved in the assassination of Nazi SS officer, Obergruppenfuehrer Reinhard Tristan Eugen Heydrich on May 27, 1942. After Heydrich's assassination, many reprisals against the Czech populace to deter them from supporting the allies, like the British, such as the massacres of Lidice and Lezaky, which villages had families that fought against the Nazi-backed protectorate government. Perhaps isolated and afraid for his family, Curda betrayed his team to the Nazis for 10,000,000 Kronen or 1 million Reichsmarks. He spent the rest of the war as a spy for the Gestapo. After the war, Sgt. Maj. Curda was caught by the restored pre-communist Czech Government and was tried and convicted for high treason. He was executed in Pankrac Prison on April 29, 1947. Curda was portrayed in the 1964 Czech Feature film "The Assassination" by Czech actor Josef Vinklár (credited as Sgt. Josef Vrbas) and the 1975/1976 US/UK/Czech film "Operation Daybreak" by British actor Martin Shaw.
