| Birth: | 1768 | | Death: | 1851 |  US Congressman. Representative from Pennsylvania’s 6th Congressional District, was born on September 5, 1768 at Harris Ferry, now Harrisburg, Pa. He was raised on a local farm and attended what local schools that were available. Harrisburg was beginning to grow and Harris became involved establishing several enterprises. When Harrisburg was named as location for the state capitol Harris was appointed commissioner to select the site for the new capitol building. He served as a paymaster in the army during the War of 1812. In 1822 Harris was elected to serve in the Eighteenth Congress and reelected 2 years later to serve in the Nineteenth. He left Congress following completion of his second term and returned to his interests in Harrisburg. He passed on September 3, 1851. (bio by: Glenn Koons)
