| Birth: | 1800 | | Death: | 1850 |  US Congressman. Representative from Pennsylvania’s 13th Congressional District, was born in Landisburg, Perry County, Pa in 1800. Following his education in Perry County’s common schools, Miller became a clerk to the county commissioners. Entering politics he won elections as Sheriff of Perry County, member of the state house of representatives and state senate. In 1832 he was elected to the Twenty third Congress. While in Congress he served as chairman if the Invalid Pensions Committee. On October 30, 1836 he resigned from Congress. For the next 6 years Miller served as first auditor for the Treasury Department but returned to Pennsylvania to serve terms as canal commissioner and secretary of state of Pennsylvania. His son, William Henry Miller, also served as a US Representative. Jesse Miller died August 20,1850. (bio by: Glenn Koons)
