Holdenville, OK - Lizzie Harjo Bruner, 94, retired from Bartlett Memorial Hospital, died Saturday. Service 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Salt Creek United Methodist Church, Wetumka. Fisher.

Lizzie Harjo Bruner was born on August 8, 1915 in Holdenville, Oklahoma to Reverend Lilla and Eliza (Long) Harjo. She went to be with the Lord, at the age of 95, on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Sapulpa, Oklahoma. She was the last living sibling of eight children. She was of the Bird Clan and a member of Hitchitee Tribal Town. She attended Pecan Grove, Bacone, Sacred Heart and then graduated from Sapulpa High School in 1935. In 1944 she and George Bruner were married and made their home in Tulsa, Oklahoma, until moving to Sapulpa, Oklahoma in 1957. She worked at Bartlett Memorial Hospital in Sapulpa and then retired from Hissom Memorial in Sand Springs in 1977. George and Lizzie returned to the Holdenville area in 1969, residing on her father's original allotment. While residing in Sapulpa, the family attended Pickett Chapel United Methodist Church and Rock Creek Independent Methodist Church. However, she remained a lifelong member of Salt Creek United Methodist Church north of Holdenville. She loved the Lord, gospel singings and visiting other churches of all denominations. She also enjoyed singing and listening to Creek hymns. She always remembered the sick, upholding them in prayer, and visiting them in hospitals and homes. Lizzie was an active member of the local American Legion Unit 32 of Holdenville. She was a Gold Star Mother and in June, 2010 the Veterans of Foreign War Post 1327 in Glenpool presented her with a plaque and United States Flag, paying tribute to her son SP4 David Bruner, who gave his life in Vietnam on May 14, 1969. In 2007, she was selected as one of the Muscogee Creek Nation's Living Legends. In May, 2010 she was also named Mother of The Year by the Holdenville Tribune. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, and two sisters; one son, David Bruner; one daughter, Ann Inay, one son-in-law, Dave Inay, and one grandchild, John David Inay. She is survived by two sons, George Doug Scott and wife Willena of Holdenville, Oklahoma, and Melvin Bruner, of the home; three daughters: Phyllis Warrington and Kugee Supernaw of Skiatook, Oklahoma, Deborah Clark of Wewoka, Oklahoma, and Georgetta ‘Jo' and Reverend Paul Fixico of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; one sister-in-law, Alice Stevens of Tulsa, Oklahoma; thirteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren, and nine great great grandchildren. She also leaves special friends and family, including two sons-in-laws, two daughters-in-law, two step-granddaughters, two step great-granddaughter, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Pallbearers will include grandsons and escorts will include granddaughters. Honorary pallbearers are Freeland ‘Butch' Powell, Louis McGeeley Jr., Roger Butler, Tommy Harjo, Alfred Goate, Bobby Larney, Gene Harjo, Rusty Powell, Jerry Wilson, Alfred Wilson, and all women's leaders. Funeral services will be held at Salt Creek United Methodist Church Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Alfred Elgin, Rev. Jimmy Anderson, and Rev.
