NORTH VERNON - Elmer Overton Cosby, 71, former B&O railroader, died at 8:52 p.m. Sept. 20 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Sept. 24 at Pickett Funeral Home with the Rev. Jan Heseman officiating. Masonic services were conducted. Burial was at Butlerville Cemetery.
He was born on July 21, 1928, in Washington, to Henry and Bertha Morgan Cosby. He attended Washington High School. He married Norma A. McKinley on Sept. 14, 1948, in Henderson, Ky. She survives.
Cosby worked for 40 years on the B&O Railroad as a car inspector. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, North Vernon Masonic Lodge, York Rite and the Eagles. He was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Brush Creek and Coffee Creek conservation clubs.
Also, surviving are: two sons, Bill Cosby, North Vernon and Roger Cosby, San Antonio, Texas; a daughter, Brenda Maschino, North Vernon; a sister, Audrey Ellis, Phoenix, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Cosby.
Memorial may be made to the North Vernon Masonic Lodge or St. Vincent's Hospital through the funeral home.
