Enlisted as a Private in Company C, 4th Regiment, Iowa on November 25, 1861.
Promoted to Full Farrier on 1 January 1864
Mustered out on August 8, 1865 at Atlanta, Georgia

Levi married Nancy Gholson in 1866 in Henry County, Iowa. They were the parents of: Charles, John, Carrie, Frederic,
Clarence, Emma, and Irving.

Civil War pension records show Levi received an invalid's pension, starting on October 12, 1885 for his service as Ferrier (person who shoes horses) in Co. "C" 4th Iowa Cavalry. (Contributed by Michael Higgins)

Levi was listed as a blacksmith at Tippecanoe, Henry County, Iowa in the 1880 census.
