On Sunday June 18,1643, Prince Rupert was on Chalgrove Field and ambushed the small Parliamentary force. John Hampden put himself head of the troop of horse and led the counter attack, John was wounded in the battle. John Hampden died of his wound at The Greyhound Inn in Thame.
