L. Catherine Blodgett, 81, lifelong resident of Central City, died Friday, March 11, 2011. at the Nebraska Heart Institute in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Central City with Monsignor Nelson Newman and the Rev. Joe Hannappel officiating. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the church with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service. Solt Funeral Home of Central City is in charge of the arrangements.
Lillian Catherine was born July 18, 1929, in Merrick County to Henry W. and Eva M. (McMahon) Bolling.
Catherine was united in marriage to Keith L. Blodgett on Aug. 20, 1949, in Central City. He died Aug. 21, 1983.
Survivors of her immediate family include a daughter, Linda "Lin" Blodgett of Lincoln; seven sons, Steve and Dawn Blodgett; Tom and Nancy Blodgett; Thad and Deb Blodgett; Ken and Laurel Blodgett; Pat and Tammy Blodgett, Craig and Mandie Blodgett, all of Central City, and Kirk Blodgett and his fiance, Jody Davis, of Clarks; sisters and brothers-in-law, Phyllis and Wallace Hannappel of Cozad; Melissa Hannappel Nielsen of Arizona; Maymie and Bob Flesch of Central City; and Carol and Jim Johnson of Bandera, Texas; 21 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren.
Additional survivors include many nieces and nephews.
She grew up in Central City and graduated from Central City High School and then continued her education at Nebraska Central College where she received her teaching certification.
Before her marriage, Catherine taught in rural Merrick County schools and she also lived in Lincoln where she worked for the telephone company and attended barber's school.
She worked at Redman's Shoe Store, she cleaned at Hard's Memorial Library in Central City, she worked with her husband at the family business, the State Theatre, and continued to operate it after his death. She also owned and operated Pick-a-Flick Video and the Poodle Parlour.
Catherine was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She belonged to the Naomi Circle and an extension club.
She loved her dog, Toby. Catherine enjoyed playing cards, going to casinos, gardening, and going to the senior center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents; two infant daughters, Marcia and Renee; and two brothers, Charles and Philip Bolling.
