Garold G. Simons, Sr., 74, of Gassaway, died Saturday, Apr. 24, 2004, at his home.

He was born in Clay County, the son of the late Cecil and Gertie Truman Simons.

He was a graduate of Spencer High School and a driver for Kroger Co., a restaurant manager and a farmer. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of American Legion Post No. 21, Spencer, and Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Mt. Zion.

Surviving are his wife, Jeanette Henderson Simons; two sons, Garold G. Simons, Jr., of Spencer and Thomas C. "Tom" Simons of Gassaway; one daughter, Terry Lea Carter of Richmond, Va.; one step-son, Dennis Spaur of Lincolnton, N.C.; three step-daughters, Annette Spaur of Vanceboro, N.C., and Nanette Sampson and Tammy Houchin, both of Arnoldsburg; two nieces, Angela Greathouse of Arnoldsburg and Laura Pauley of Elkview; several grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one step-daughter, Rebecca "Becky" Spaur Moss.

Services were held at John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with Rev. Rick Swearengin officiating. Burial, with military graveside rites, was in Blessed Hope Cemetery, Spencer.
