William Orrin Backus is the son of William Henry Backus and Ida Josephine Cronenberg. His family all moved to California around 1882. William was first married to Myrtle Alice Colvin abt 1910 in Multnomah County, Oregon. They had one child to that union, William Henry Backus. They divorced a few years later.
William married for the second time to the opera singer Jeanne Jomelli on 4 Jan 1917, in Jersey City, New Jersey. Jeanne died 29 Aug 1932 in San Francisco, California. Just a few weeks later William married Belle McAckern Condon. A short few weeks later William took his own life because of business problems and not getting along with his new bride.
