Nathan was the son of George and Sarah Smith. He was baptized in First Congregational Society, New Haven, on 8 Feb 1656. He married (1) Esther Goodyear and they had children-Amy, Ann, Andrew, Hester and Obedience. The last 3 children all died young. Esther died in 1691. He married (2) Hannah Brown in 1698 and they had three children- Mehitabel, Andrew and Hannah.
