Allen Pitkin, son of Jonathan, was born in East Hartford, Hartford Co., CT., in 1777, and died in Lorraine, Jefferson Co., NY in 1847. He was a young man of limited means and great perseverance when he located in this town in 1803, on the farm now occupied by Fred Lanfear, on the state road, about two miles south of Lorraine village. Here he at one time kept an hotel. He served in the war of 1812. He married Persis Stedman,Nov. 25, 1800, by whom he had five sons and four daughters, as follows: Selah Stedman, b: 1801; Persis, b: 1804, married Jude Lamson; an Infant, b &d: 1806; Julia, born: 1809, died at age nine years; Timothy, born: 1812, died in Oswego; Erwin, b: 1814; Allen Jr., b: 1816; Lucy Ann, b: 1820, married D. H. Frink; Emily, b: 1822, married Haskell Atwood; and Levi, b: 1824
