Statesboro - Mrs. Betty Hodges Jones, 85, died Wednesday in Columbus after a long illness.
The Evans County native lived in Statesboro and Jekyll Island. She attended Georgia Southern and Georgia Normal in Athens. She was a member of Statesboro Primitive Baptist Church, where she was a member of Mina Franklin circle and Ladies' Bible study class. She was a charter member of Brunswick Primitive Baptist Church and Jekyll Island Garden Club.
Surviving are two daughters, Ms. Sara B.J. Cook of Statesboro and Mrs. Evelyn J. Akin of Marietta; a son, W. Herbert Jones of Columbus; two sisters, Miss Lucile Hodges of Claxton and Mrs. Edna H. Tootle of Savannah; three brothers, G.G. Hodges of Memphis, Tenn., W. Hugh Hodges of Savannah and Ray C. Hodges of Charleston, S.C.; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral: 4 p.m. Friday at Statesboro Primitive Baptist Church, burial in Eastside Cemetery. Hodges-Turner Funeral Home.
