Cynthia Mae Bentz Gamble (Hopson)
OGDEN, UTAH -Cynthia Hopson, age 68, passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 8, 2011, at the McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah.
Cynthia was born July 7, 1942, in Goodrich, Atlas Township, Michigan, to Duane Thompson Bentz Sr., and Leona Mae Lawton. She became a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in LaJara, Colorado, on March 13, 1955.
She married and had three children during life. Our mom was a great mother who loved her children more than life itself. She loved to pan for gold, picnic, camp and collect rocks from different places that she visited. She loved to pack up the kids and go on Sunday drives to the mountains. She attended college, majoring in theater and performed in several plays as well as worked behind the scenes in costuming and props.
She helped start a theater guild in Logan, Utah, where she helped plan events, exhibits and benefits. She also wrote and directed a play called "Winter on the Trail," which was performed twice by two different wards. She loved to write down her thoughts and even wrote two fictional novels based on some of her life experiences. She also loved to play the piano. But most of all she loved just spending time with her family.
Mom made her living as a secretary and bookkeeper at various businesses. She had a natural talent in typing. She had an average typing speed of 110 words per minute.
Our mother leaves behind three children that she raised single-handedly, Kirsten (Max) Littlefield, Becca (Mark) Cochran, and Will (Rachel) Hopson; six grandchildren, Bryan, Hailey, Joseph, Sascha, Rachel, Jacob and Crystal, all who were the loves of her life; sister, Fran (Dean) Symons; and brothers, Tom (Mary) Bentz and Cleve (Susan) Bentz. Her parents preceded her in death, as well as one grandson, Archie Duane, who was stillborn.
Funeral services for Cynthia will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the LDS Syracuse Seventh Ward Chapel, located at 1625 South 1100 West. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church prior to the services. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, located in Soda Springs, Idaho, next to her beloved, Steve.
We would like to give a special thank-you to Dr. Foote, Trina, Dr. Gray, Lance, Brett, Natalie, Lori, Billy, Todd, and all the wonderful staff at McKay-Dee Hospital who cared for our mother.
Colonial Funeral Home is caring for Cynthia's family. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.Colonial-FuneralHome.com.
