Floyd Newbill Crittenden is the son of Dr. Henry Holt Wilson Crittenden and Bettie Temple Phillips Crittenden. He was married to Elizabeth Maie Hines Crittenden on 17 January 1905 in Roanoke, Virginia. They had five children: John Holt Crittenden, Thomas Floyd Crittenden, Martha Elizabeth Crittenden, Henry Valentine Crittenden and Ethel Taylor Crittenden. He was a pharmacist and owner of Crittenden's Drug Store in Crewe, Virginia. He took over the drug store business in 1903 on the death of his father. He was a member of Crewe Baptist Church. He served as a pallbearer for the Baptist missionary in China, Lottie Moon. She is also buried in the Crewe Cemetery. (Southern Baptist Churches contribute to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering to support international missionaries.)
