Dallas opened a men's clothing store in downtown Frankfort after coming here from Shelbyville. His building burned in 1898, but in 1900 he re-opened his business in a handsome new building at 202 Main Street.

Architects Charles Clarke and Arthur Loomis designed the Richardsonian Romanesque style buidling. Crutcher was one of the incorporators of the 1886 Frankfort, Bellepoint and Leestown Street Railway Company - the Frankfort trolley system.
