Singer, actor. Born Daniel Simmons on the Yakima Reservation in Washington state. He debuted in show business as bass in opera productions and performed on stage for many years before a switch to a film career in 1925 with a role in 'Tonio, Son of the Sierras.' Taking the name Chief Yowlachie, he continued to portray roles such as Billy Jackrabbit in 1930's 'The Girl of the Golden West,' Running Deer in 1940's 'White Eagle,' Chief Yellow Feather in 'The Paleface' in 1948, Cochise in 1951's 'The Last Outpost,' and Harry Willowtree in 1959's 'The FBI Story.' He appeared in almost seventy motion pictures before his death at age seventy-five.
