Marshall McFadin was born in Akansas to Elias H. "Eli" and Sarah Jane (Marshall) McFadin. He married Victoria Swiney June 1, 1860 in Scott, Arkansas the daughter of William and Nancy Holloway Swiney. Marshall was a Private in Hardy's Regiment in Akansas and then served as a Private in 2nd Company A 1st Cherokee Mounted Rifles Arkansas known as Stand Waties Regiment for the Confederacy during the Civil War. Marshall's brother's Robert H. & Allen B. McFadin and three of his cousins Charles, Thomas & Tilly McFadin also enlisted.
There were no records found of his brother Allen being in the 1st Cherokee Rifles in Arkansas, so in order for his brother to get a pension Marshall swore in a affidavit for his brother. In the affidavit Marshall age 73, Sommerville P.O. Chalk Mountain Texas, stated that his brother Allen B. McFadin enlisted in Co A 1st Cherokee Regiment sometime in 1863. Marshall said he served in the same Company.
Sometime after the war members of McFadin, Swiney & Marshall families moved to Texas. Marshall & Victoria were in Fannin Tx before buying some land in Somervell county and building their homestead that was near Chalk Mountain, Texas.
Marshall's sister Sarah (McFadin) and husband James Shipman named one of their sons Marshall McFadin Shipman..also Victoria (Swiney) McFadin (Marshall's wife's sister Aminda Swinney and James Alvin Lynch also named a son..Marshall McFadden Lynch.
