Mildred Allred Mercer, born March 15, 1910, passed away Friday, June 15, 2001 of natural causes in American Fork.
She was the oldest daughter born to Coleman and Jane Forsyth Allred.
She was educated in the Provo schools, attending the old Maeser Elemen-tary and B.Y.U.
She attended St. Marks School of Nursing, specializing in maternity care.
She married Patrick Casey in 1928 and moved to Tooele, where she set up housekeeping and started her family. They moved back to Provo where she worked as a nurse for Drs. Weston Oaks and Merrill. She was later divorced and continued working to support her two young daughters, Patricia and Geraldine.
In 1934 she married John Raymond Mercer in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
He had two sons, Wayne and Burnell. Later, they had a son of their own, David. After 58 years in Tooele, she moved to American Fork in 1986 to be closer to her daughter Geri Strong.
Mildred was always active in her church and community. She was an avid genealogist and researcher. She authored a book called "History of Tooele County". She was a long time member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and the Utah Historical Society.
She had a love for reading good literature. She crocheted lovely afghans and enjoyed giving them away. She traveled extensively and loved it. She served an LDS mission to Raleigh, No. Carolina in 1979-80.
She is survived by four living children: Geri (Dallas) Strong, American Fork; Wayne (Bonnie) Mercer, Galt, CA; David (Thelma) Mercer, Lincoln NE; Burnell (Connie) Mercer, Chambersburg, PA; 19 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Pat; and seven siblings.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 22 at 11 a.m. at Anderson & Sons Mortuary, 49 East 100 North, American Fork, where friends may call one hour prior to the services.
Burial, Tooele City Cemetery.
