A graduate of Plant High School, (Hall of Fame), he was a graduate of the University of Florida, where he was an outstanding football player.
During World War II, he served with the 1111th Engineer Combat Corp, Co. C, and was awarded 5 combat stars. He took part in the Normandy invasion and the Battle of the Bulge.
He was a high school coach in Lake City, Fla., before returning to Tampa to establish Broughton Williams School.
Predeceased by his parents, E.K. and Allie Mae (Conner) Williams, and his brother, Hub Williams, he is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara; children Jan, Karen , Jill, Kim and Chip Williams; grandchildren Peter Hershock, Erin and Keri Kinchley; sister, Margaret Baumgartner; sister-in-law, Vaudine Williams; 8 nieces and nephews; with the family's special thanks to his friend, N.E. McLeod, and his nephew, Rick Williams.
