Obituary: Knoxville Journal, May 23,1949

Sgt. Lewis Brooks, age 32, was killed in a jeep accident at Fort Bragg, N.C. where he was stationed, early Saturday morning. He was a World War II Veteran, having served in the Navy and U.S. Army for the past nine years. Survivors: wife, Mrs. Helen McCoy Brooks and daughter, Linda Susan Brooks, formerly of Branville Rd, Knoxville; sons, Ronald, Donald and William, all of St. Louis; parents, Mr. & Mrs. Lewis Brooks Sr. of Brawley, CA; four brothers and one sister. Services Thursday 10 a.m. at McCarty's McCalla Avenue Chapel, Rev. M.J. Smith officiating. Interment in Roseberry Cemetery, with American Legion Post No.2 will have charge of services at the grave. The body will arrive in Knoxville Tuesday afternoon and will remain at McCarty's, McCalla Avenue Chapel.

Brooks served overseas with the Navy Seabee's during WWII and was the recipient of the Bronze Star.
