Joseph Weseli immigrated to America at the age of 21 (ca. 1864). He landed in NY, then went to Cincinnati where he worked at his trade of cigar maker which he had learned in the old country. In 1865, he came to New Bremen where he lived on North Main St.

He married Wilhelmine Louisa Fortriede on 11/4/1865. She died 3/29/1878. On 11/6/1879, he married Wilhelmina Christina Bambauer. Joseph died 8/26/1904 from consumption of the throat. Funeral services were held at the residence. Burial took place in German Protestant Cemetery.

Joseph Weseli was an honorary member of the Northern Fire Co. and the entire Fire Dept. was expected to accompany the remains to the grave. He was survived by his widow, 6 sons, 3 daughters-in-law, 6 grandchildren, 2 sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law.
