Mattie Grieb was the 94 year old widow of Anson A. Grieb. She passed away at McCune-Brooks hospital in Carthage at age 94 after suffering an embolism in her cerebral artery (stroke) and falling, fracturing her right humerus(arm). She also was diagnosed with senility.
Her father was John Riley Moss and her mother was Nancy Boxley Moss

Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Grieb Married Here 50 Years Ago
Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Grieb, who live southeast of Carthage on route 3, observed their golden wedding anniversary last Sunday by keeping open house to their friends and relatives.
Mr. Grieb was born in 1863 in Tylerville, PA., and came to Jasper county with his parents when he was six years old. Mrs. Grieb was born on the Moss homestead, southeast of Carthage, in 1866. They were married October 7, 1884 in Carthage. All of their married life has been spent on the same farm.
Mr. and Mrs. Grieb reared six children, all of whom are married and live within 20 miles of their parents.
The children were all present for the celebration Sunday. Twenty-three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also were present. One grandson, Loyd Grieb, who is attending the University of Missouri, Columbia was unable to attend.
The couple received several lovely gifts, including a radio presented by their children.
Relatives surprised Mr. and Mrs. Grieb by arriving at the noon hour with well filled baskets for dinner, which was spread on a long table and served cafeteria style.

Grieb, Lee Grieb, Lucille Grieb, Clare Grieb, Harold Grieb, Frankie Spence, Earl Spence, Hal Spence, Don Spence, and Ina Faye Spence, all grandchildren; Joan Whitehead and Wanda Marie Grieb, great grandchildren.
