Robert D. Brown, son of Clarence and Cleo (Hawkins) Brown was born on April 8, 1923, in Flandreau, SD. Bob attended school in Flandreau, graduating from high school in 1942. He joined the Navy in October of 1942, serving in the Pacific Ocean on the USS Jason during WWII. He received his honorable discharge in March of 1946.
In 1946, Bob returned to South Dakota and worked at the Army-Navy Store in Sioux Falls where he met Alta Mae Daggett. They were united in marriage on November 9, 1946. Bob started working for the Post Office in 1946, and retired on December 29, 1979. After retiring from the Post Office, he started a second career volunteering at the Old Courthouse Museum for 29 years. In 2009, Bob moved to O'Neill, NE, to be closer to family. He resided at the Evergreen Assisted Living Center.
Grateful for having shared his life are his sons, Robert Brown, Jr. and his wife, Lynette, of Urbandale, IA, Roger Brown and his wife, Reva, of Elkton, SD; his daughters, Terri Moeller of Pipestone, MN, Holly Keil and her husband, Randy, of Inman, NE, and Cleo Kohler and her husband, Paul, of Brookings, SD; eight grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Howard; and his wife, Alta.
Funeral services will Tuesday at Wildflower Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in Hills of Rest Memorial Park. Miller Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
