Son of George RANCK (1739 – 1812) and Anna Barbara HARTUNG (1746 – 1799)∼George Rank was born in Pennsylvania and reared as a farmer and was educated both in German and English. He married in his native state and in 1829 moved to Ohio and purchased land near Shelby, in Richland county, where agriculture engaged his attention until his death. He and his wife were parents of twelve children, viz: Nancy, Samuel, Susan, George, Catherine, Sarah, Joseph, John, Lydia, Christina and two that died in infancy. George and Christina were members of the German Reform church and in politics, Mr. Rank was a democrat.
