The wife of naturalist Louis Agassiz, she helped to organize and manage the Thayer Expedition to Brazil in 1865, and the Hassler Expedition to the Strait of Magellan in 1871. She co-wrote "A First Lesson in Natural History," "Seaside Studies in Natural History," and "A Journey in Brazil". She served as President of Radcliffe College from 1882 to 1899.
