Claude was the 7th of eight children of James Emmett Whitney and Narcassa Miriam Mead. Claude married Manila Olive Togni on September 4, 1919 at San Francisco, California, and they had three children, Ray, Warren, and Victor. After losing his leg in WWI, Claude was a part time actor playing wounded WWI veteran in several films.
