Texas, USA
Death: Mar. 4, 2011
Jefferson County

Rock Vocalist. Born John Preston Courville, Jr., he started performing in school chorals which took him throughout the state of Texas and later formed the group The Shades. This would lead to him being noticed by the Big Bopper in 1957, and an eventual contract with the Mercury record label. Preston found stardom with his number one gold record "Running Bear" (1959) and followed it with two Top-20 chart placings "Cradle of Love" (1960, reaching number 7) and "Feel So Fine" (1960, peaking at number 14). He continued to perform throughout the rest of his life, but failed to achieve the same success. (bio by: C.S.)
