WATERVILLE - Robert E. Timmins, 87, of Francis Street in Waterville, died Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Thayer campus, in Waterville. He was born in Waterville, March 24, 1923, the son of Robert and Mildred (Ward) Timmins.
He was a lifelong resident of Waterville. He graduated from Coburn Classical Institute, attended Bates College and received his degree in geology from Colby College.
Mr. Timmins served in the Navy during World War II, spending three years in the Asian-Pacific Theater and attained the rank of lieutenant junior grade. After remaining in the Navy Reserve, he served further on active duty during the Korean War.
Mr. Timmins was employed at Scott Paper Co. for more than 35 years, retiring as the paper mill superintendent.
He was predeceased by his parents; and by a brother, Frederick.
He was married for 64 years to Geraldine (Hart) Timmins, who took loving care of him for the past year of his life. He is also survived by a son, Robert, and wife Lisa of Sidney; daughter Ardra and husband Robert of Winslow; grandchildren Keith Poulin of St. Petersburg, Fla., Eli Poulin of Waterville, Mary and husband Pete Madden of Buxton and Emily and husband Nick Poulin of Fairfield; two stepgrandchildren, Samantha Hall and Josh Hall; and a great-granddaughter, Julia Hart Poulin of Fairfield.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at a later date in Pine Grove Cemetery in Waterville. (Morning Sentinel 3/4/2011)
