Yvonne Rudellat joined the French Section of the Special Operations Executive in 1942 aged 45 years. After training she was sent to France by small boat.
Rudellat joined the Prosper Circuit as a courier and also carried out many operations against the Germans, the sabotage of train links and factories. She was described as being a very enthusiastic agent and cool under pressure.
Between 1942 -43 Yvonne worked both as a courier and a specialist in sabotage and arranging parachute drops for both arms supply and general provisions.
She was an active member of the team, who successfully sabotaged the Chaigny Power Station and she personally blew up 2 locomotives at Le Mans. This operation caused much havoc and disruption to the enemy.
Suspicion with the German Gestapo mounted and Yvonne was arrested on the 21st June 1943 by the Gestapo, whilst waiting for a parachute drop.
Rudellat was wounded in an escape attempt, the injury was not serious and she was sent to Ravensbruck Concentration Camp, then to Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp and died of typhus.
Commemorated by Obelisk, Romorantin in the Loire Valley France. Included in the Special Operations Executive Memorial at Valencay, named in the Roll of Honor..Who Died For France.
