US Congressman. He was elected to represent two Illinois Districts in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1861 to 1865. First represented the 2nd District from 1861 to 1863, then the 1st District from 1863 to 1865. He served as a volunteer aide on the staff of Colonel David Hunter during the First Battle of Bull Run.
