Lois Marian Brewer, 94, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.

She was born Aug. 26, 1916, in Tampa, the daughter of Aaron Elmer and Ethel Leora (Whitehead) Anderson. Her early years were spent in the Osawkie and Overbrook communities before the family moved to Smolan, where she attended local schools and graduated from Smolan High School.

On Jan. 26, 1941, Lois married Joseph W. Brewer. After starting their married life on a family farm near Elmo, they moved to Hollyrood to manage and operate the airport. During World War II, they relocated to the Kansas City area where Joe was a flight instructor with the Army Air Corps. They returned to the farm and raised their family but remained active in aviation with the Flying Farmers of America.

After retiring from farming, they moved to Junction City where Lois was employed 10 years at the Junction City Airport until her retirement.

Lois had a gift for caring for God's creatures whether it be livestock, house plants, gardening, bird watching or caregiving for loved ones. She especially loved traveling to visit her daughter and granddaughter. She shared her talents by playing the piano, sewing, reading, and being an active member of her church. She was also a member of the Jolly Mixers Sewing Club where she quilted and enjoyed the friendship of her neighbors. Lois and Joe spent the last several years living with their daughter on her farm at Silver Lake, where they continued enjoying farm life.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Jean, of Silver Lake; granddaughter, Carrie Elizabeth Lawson of Atlanta, Ga., and nephews who were like sons to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Paul, Ralph, and Chester Anderson; two sons, Clark and Craig; and her husband, Joe.

Services were Thursday, Feb. 24, at the Carlton Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at the Banner Cemetery in Elmo.
