James Martin Hicks, 76, 2325 South 400 West, Portland, died Sunday morning at Jay County Hospital.
He was retired from Teledyne Portland Forge.
A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of American Legion Post 211 in Portland.
Born May 18, 1921, Pennsylvania, he was the son of William C. and Catherine Ellen (Henry) Hicks. He was married Oct. 26, 1941, to Mary Landers, who survives.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Charles (Ginger) Shrack, Redkey, and Diana Hicks, Portland; three sisters, Catherine Riley, New Castle, Del., Margaret Spear, Newark, Del., and Mary Jane Gerber, Townsend, Del.; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter; one step-great-granddaughter; one step great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Services are set for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home, Portland, with Rev. Earl Coates officiating. Burial will be in Green Park Cemetery in Portland.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Memorials may be made to the Jay County Heart Fund.
