Rebecca (Kugler) Kloss

"Grandma Kloss Gone. Rebecca Kloss was born in Mauch Chunk, Pennsylvania, March 12, 1818, and passed away January 20, 1916, at the home of her grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Cudahy, of Dawson township, aged 97 years, 10 months and 11 days.

"She was married to Jacob Kloss in the year 1839, he having gone to his rest twenty-nine years ago. They were the parents of nine children, four of whom have gone before, and three sons and two daughters living, but scattered far and wide. The deceased was one of the old settlers of Dawson township coming here with her family from Pennsylvania about thirty-five years ago. She was a hard working industrious woman, laboring by lamp light to raise her children and make a home for them. Herself and husband bought two hundred and forty acres of land, where they lived until the death of her husband. She was a member of the Presbyterian church in Pennsylvania, but after moving to Iowa attended the Friends church which was near her home. Mrs. Kloss who was in poor health a number of years before her death, stated a short time before her death that she was ready to go and meet her God. After the death of her husband she made her home with different ones of her children until the last six years, which she spent with her grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Cudahy, they caring for her until the end.

"She was laid at rest in the Friends cemetery in Dawson beside her husband, the funeral sermon being conducted at the Friends' church by Rev. W.D. Groesbeck, pastor of the Free Methodist church at Churdan. Besides her children, she leaves several grandchildren and great grandchildren, and friends and neighbors without number."
