I found this on a page Rosie had done...it's PERFECT!
You don't get over it, you just get
through it. You don't get by it, because
you can't get around it. It doesn't get
better, it just becomes different.
Everyday, Grief puts on a new face.
Today I had the sad task of adding my grandma's headstone here. It's like a second punch in the gut:( Another huge reality check I could've done without.
I LOVE YOU, GRANDMA!!!!!
My grandmother (maternal) passed away this morning at 10am. She had been in ICU for 4 days and was not improving at all. When we arrived at the hospital this morning shortly before 10 (within minutes of 10am), an ICU nurse was at the foot of her bed. The red light was flashing on her monitor due to her extremely low heart rate (in the lower 40s). We were told it wouldn't be long, it could be minutes or hours, but that we could talk with her, hold her hand, and tell her it was ok to go.
My mother was on one side of her and I at the other. My mother told her it was ok to go....I told her it was ok, as well, that we loved her, and that we would be ok...everything would be ok. It probably wasn't more than a minute or so and she was gone.
It was perhaps the MOST moving experience of my ENTIRE LIFE and one I shall not forget. The Lord was TRULY TRULY in that room this morning and I know my grandma waited until we arrived before leaving. There is no other way to explain the timing and how it went down <3 <3 She was a strong-willed, feisty lady (and I was the recipient of those same traits :) ). <3 <3
I love you, grandma....I am so very thankful I was able to spend your final few days with you. My memories are FILLED with childhood memories that include you....ear piercings, special potato salad, special dinners when I didn't like the main course, curly perms in the summer like Annie, Debby Boone 8-track tapes, and of course, picking strawberries in the summer (one in the mouth, one in the box! LOL)....
I will forever be indebted for everything I've learned from you....<3
My deep appreciation goes out to Sherri for sponsoring my grandma's page <3
This was my grandma...COMPLETELY. Grief Grandma's Way
