John B. Morton, Sr., age 88 of Maryville, died Tuesday, October 12, 1999 at his home.

He was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Mentor, was a former County Commissioner and Clerk and Master of Blount County, he was a 50 year member of the George Washington Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Bailey Morton; parents, G.A. and Grace Talbott Morton; brothers, Charles, Joe and Glenn.

Survivors include: son, Jerry D. Morton of Richmond, Va.; son and daughter in law, John B. and Patricia Best Morton, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; granddaughter and grandson in law, Molly and Jamie Pope of Shelbyville, Tenn.; granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Morton of Nashville; great grandsons, Alexander and Christopher Pope; sisters, Ruth Riley, Madge Gideon, Sue Swann all of Maryville, Jean (Mrs. Robert)Smith of Rockford.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Mentor with Rev. Jim Harless, Rev. Larry Best and Dr. Charles Bailey officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. The interment will be in Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immuanuel United Methodist Church, 2349 Mentor Road, Louisville, Tenn. 37777 or to the American Cancer Society, c/o Jill B. Rollins, 2330 Chesterfield Drive, Maryville, Tenn 37803. McCammon-Ammons Funeral Home, Maryville in charge.
