| Birth: | Aug. 13, 1827 Hamilton Butler County Ohio, USA | | Death: | Jul. 6, 1881 Greenville Darke County Ohio, USA |  US Congressman. He attended and taught in the Ohio public school system. He was admitted to the bar in 1849 and began to practice law in 1850 in the town of Greenville, Ohio. He was the Darke County prosecuting attorney from 1850 to 1854. He was elected as a Democrat to the thirty-sixth and Thirty-Seventh US Congress from March 4, 1859 to March 3, 1863 and declined to run again in 1862. He resumed his law practice and changed his affiliation to the Republican Party after the Civil War. He was appointed as judge of the common pleas court in 1865 and declined the Republican nomination for US Congress in 1878 because of failing health. (bio by: Tom Todd)
