|Death: ||Jun. 20, 1917|
in 1850 census, listed as being 12 years old (born 1838)
also in household:
Zachariah 41, Sarah 36, John 15, Mary 10, Robert S. 5, and Nancy H. 3/12. There was also a James M., age 20 living there as well. Possibly a brother, but born before the marriage of Zachariah and Sarah. I think probably her cousin.
in 1870 census, listed as being 26 years old (born 1844)
also in household:
Sarah Canterbury 53, Manda Steel (aunt) 40, Nancy Steel 17, Margarat Steel 15, James Steel 6
(NOTE: When you look at the actual census image, you will notice that under Canterbury, there are 'ditto' lines drawn for everyone, but that Manda had Steel written over the line. I believe that the census taker assumed they were all her children until told that Amanda was her sister, and he wrote in the Steel. So I believe that Nancy and Margaret were Sarah's daughters, and I think James is her grandson, James Hezekiah Canterbury)
in 1880 census, listed as being 35 years old (born 1845) and as daughter of the head of household, Sarah Canterbury, 58. Also in household:
John H. Canterbury, 18 (grandson)
Amanda Steel, 40 (sister)
haven't yet found in 1900 census
in 1910 census, listed as being 65 years old (born 1845), wife of Barney S. Brown. No children listed with them. Says they have been married 26 years, with it being her first and Barney's third (M3). Next door to William L. Carr and wife Margaret, who I believe is Jane's sister.
LA Death Records index shows that Jane Brown died at age 75 on 6/20/1917, making her born around 1842.
