Miriam Genetta Cowan was born 1852 in Arkansas to James Cowan and his wife –"unknown".
The 1860 Federal Census lists James and daughter Miriam only living in at this time in Granby, Newton, Missouri.
Miriam married George Washington Pendleton on May 16, 1869 in Lawrence County, Missouri by Justice of the Peace, R. L. Burrow, (Book ABC, page 470), a son of William Monroe Pendleton and Nancy Anney Dunning and George died Oct 3, 1914, and is buried in the Dover Baptist Church Cemetery with his wife Miriam and son.
George was a Union Soldier in the Civil War, Company B, 15 Missouri Cavalry. The Marionville, Missouri Free Press states that George Pendleton died, age 69, when a wagon overturned, throwing him. He had been a widower for 26 years and had two surviving children at that time. He and Miriam had six children, all born in Missouri.
