Gerogia Lee Curtis, 24, of Denver died Friday night in a car-truck collision nine miles east of Eagle on US 6-24 at a junction of two-lane and four-lane highways. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Curtis of Nucla.
She was dead on arrival at Vail Clinic. A passenger in the car, Sandee Barfoot of Denver, who suffered numerous injuries, is reported in Glenwood Springs hospital.
The driver of the tractor trailer truck, Tony R. Hamilton, of Denver, was not injured.
The State Patrol said the young women were traveling west entering two-way traffic from the four-lane road and negotiating a left-hand curve.
Their car went off the right side of the highway, into a sideway slide and was in broadside collision with the truck, the Patrol said. Hamilton saw the slide, the Patrol side but was unable to stop until the truck had gone over the front end of the car. Both women were thrown from the late model small car.
Services for Miss Curtis were held at the Nucla Congregational Church Monday at 2:00 pm. Rev William Keeney officiated with interment in the Nucla Cemetery. Valley Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
Miss Curtis was born at Telluride October 2, 1947. She attended schools in Nucla and Fort Lewis College at Durango. She was a member of the Congregational Church of Nucla and a former member of Rainbow Girls.
Her parents and a brother, David survive.
