Betty was born in Sterling on May 27, 1922, to Lyle and Maude Benson Harns, pioneer home-steaders in the Graylin community northwest of Sterling. She was raised in a very loving Christian home and enjoyed many happy times as she grew into adulthood. Betty was a gifted student who achieved numerous academic honors. She graduated as valedictorian of her class in 1940. Betty was also gifted with a beautiful soprano voice and a wonderful sense of humor, both of which she frequently exercised. Her proudest moment was celebrated upon her capping as a registered nurse in 1945, having graduated from BethEl Nursing School in Colorado Springs.
Betty was a devoted wife to husband Forest Delaney, whom she married in 1946 in Greeley. During their 20 years of marriage and while he served in the U.S. Army, primarily as a recruiter, they generally resided in eastern Nebraska and Colorado. Their union was blessed with three chil-dren, Steve, Diane and Bill. Despite being stricken with paralytic polio in December of 1956, having survived breast cancer and suffering most recently from post-polio syndrome and Alzheimer's, Betty never wavered in her faith and met life's challenges with courage beyond measure; profound impact she had on all who knew her is her greatest legacy. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her chil-dren, who are so thankful God picked her to be Mom; by her extended family; and by her many cherished and life-long friends.
Betty is survived by her three children, son, Steve and wife Janet of Colorado Springs; daughter, Diane Coleman and husband Rob of Cheyenne, Wyo.; son, BIll and wife Valerie of Cheyenne; her beloved grandchildren, Jennifer and Brian; and her five precious great-grandchildren, Abby, Emily, Jake, Lily and Owen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle and Maude Harns; brothers, Roger and Richard Harns; sisters, Ruth Alice Harns Flesner; Joan Harns Cook and Jeannette Harns; and numerous other relatives
