World War II crew member of the United States destroyer Pillsbury, sunk with all hands southwest of Bali, by Japanese cruisers Atago and Takao, on March 2, 1942. There were no survivors.Richard was the son of Christopher C. and Nellie E. Lang. His siblings were Doris, Lois, Willard, Ruth and Russell. His father was born in Canada of German descent. He died in 1942 when the USS Pillsbury was destroyed and sank.
