RAMSEY-KINNEY,, VELMA C. (JANE). Velma Ramsey-Kinney passed away on June 25, 2005, in Gainesville, Texas, at the age of 98. She will be remembered as a kind, loving, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. Her smile, warm heart, and sense of humor will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Her faith, optimism, and general outlook on life were indicative of her strong belief in the power of positive thinking. She was a lifelong Baptist who belonged to Cliff Temple Baptist Church until her retirement when she transferred her membership to First Baptist Church in Athens, Tx. She was born in Bronte, Coke County, Tx., to Emma Jane (Howell) and Willie Green Curry, the third of six children. She became a Registered Nurse in Muskogee, OK. and married James Basil Ramsey, the father of her children, in December, 1925. Mr. Ramsey worked for the T & P Railway until his death in May of 1954. Velma worked as an R.N. during WW II and worked in large appliance sales at Sanger-Harris for many years. After her retirement, she moved to Athens, TX., and married Richard J. Kinney, Sr. on 12-13-82. He preceded her in death on 2-7-85. She is survived by her sister, Olene Cravens of Etowah, TN.; her brother, John T. Curry, of Victoria, TX.; one daughter, Dollye Yeargan, of Gainesville, TX.; and one son, James Ramsey, of Conroe, TX. Velma is also survived by four grandchildren and their spouses: Tricia Scott and David, Jim Yeargan and Sherry, Laura Roberts and Jay, and John Yeargan and Maria. Great grandchildren include Melissa Scott, Martha Roberts, Rebecca Roberts, Nikki Yeargan, and Stephen Yeargan. Her blended family includes several step-great-grandchildren, step-great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on June 29 at Laurel Land Chapel with the Reverend Rick Cope officiating and interment to follow in Laurel Land. Pallbearers are family members: Robert Jennings, Jay Roberts, David Scott, Jim Yeargan, Stephen Yeargan, and John Yeargan. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Athens, Tx., or a favorite charity. Special thanks is extended to the angels who cared for Mrs. Kinney throughout her stay in Gainesville: Nellie Alexander, Eddie Mae Scott, Judy Williams, and Versa Tipps.
