Diana Hope Rowden was born in England and moved to Southern France when she was a young girl. Her family returned to England and she was educated here. In 1933 Rowden returned to France and enrolled at the Sorbonne before finding employment as a journalist in Paris.
Rowden escaped to England in 1941 and joined the War effort, she came to the attention of the French Section of the Special Operations Executive because of her fluency in French and her knowledge of France.
In March 1943 Diana joined S.O.E.- after completing her training she was flown to France and met by Henri Dericourt.
Rowden then worked as a courier delivering messages to other agents in..Marseille, Lyon and Paris. She also helped agent Harry Ree plan the destruction of the Peugot Factory at Sochaux.
In November 1943 Rowden was arrested by the Gestapo after being betrayed by an informant and sent to Fresnes Prison and next day being sent to Gestapo Headquarters at 84 Avenue Foch Paris - she was brutally interrogated and tortured for the next 2 weeks. Afterwards she was sent to concentration camps.
On the 6th July 1944 Rowden was sent to Natzweiler Concentration Camp upon arrival was injected with phenol and disposed of in the crematorium.

MBE(British Government) -Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur, Croix de Guerre - Name Registered Scottish National War Memorial at Edinburgh Castle, Scotland England. Special Operations Executive Memorial at Runnymede, Surrey, England.
French Section Special Operations Executive Memorial Roll of Honor in the town of Valencay France.
