He was born in Malatya, Turkey and was one of the most powerful Armenians in the town. He married Mariam Kojabashian and had children including: Diramayr, Sarkis, Nazareth (and a twin who died), Haroutune, Avedis, and Margaret. Toros and Mariam raised Nazareth's two young children after their mother died and Nazareth had immigrated to America. Most of his children immigrated to America, while Toros remained in Malatya until his death like in mid-1913. After his death his wife Mariam joined her children and their families in Philadelphia where she died two years later. There is an Armenian cemetery still in existence in Malatya, but most of the stones from before 1915 were removed and used to build a wall elsewhere, so if he was buried there it is now unmarked.
