United States Army General. Graduated from the USMA, Class of 1933. Stationed in the Philippines at the start of World War II, he survived the Bataan Death March in 1942 and was a Prisoner of War for the rest of the conflict. From 1963 to 1964, he served as the deputy Chief of Staff for Operations. He was appointed Chief of Staff on July 3,1964 and served during the height of the Vietnam War. He retired in 1968.
