May 27, 1849 Mahlon Branin disowned by father, married contrary to discipline

Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy
Volume 4
Salem monthly Meeting, Ohio

Mahlon Branin died at his home in Vinton, July 7, 1890, of heart disease, M. Branin, aged 70 years.
Mr. Branin was born in New Jersey, in 1820. His parents were Quakers or Friends. A wife and four sons, two of whom are residents of Kansas and two of Washington, are left to mourn. Three of his sons were with him the two weeks preceding his death. Mr. Branin was one of the old settlers in Benton County and one of her best citizens. We believe he had no enemies. A large circle of personal friends and the community sympathize with the family, and feel that a good man has gone. The funeral service occurred yesterday (Wednesday), the remains taken to Big Grove Township for interment.
