Birth: Nov. 9, 1825
Cumberland County
Pennsylvania, USA
Death: Jul. 24, 1914
Steuben County
Indiana, USA

Elizabeth Rinehart was born in Cumberland county, Pa, November 9th, 1825. She was the fourth child of John and Betsey Rinehart, who came westward in 1832 to the state of Ohio and settled in Sandusky county. Here they remained for several years, helping to clear the forest and built a home for themselves and reared their family of nine children, all but one growing to manhood and womanhood. Of this family only two sisters now remain, Mrs. Sarah Pardee of Angola and Mrs. Jake Berlin of Alabama.

In 1847 she was united in marriage to William H. Clark, who departed this life in August, 1904. To them were born four daughters. In the year 1853 the family came to this county where they have ever since resided. Early in life she united with the German Baptist church and was for many years a faithful member and was always a consistent Christian. For the past fourteen years she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Reuben Seller, where she passed quietly to her eternal rest July 24, 1914, aged 88 years, 8 months and 15 days.

The four daughters, Mrs. Mary A. Button, of Coldwater, Mich., Mrs. Jane Sellers, of Fremont, Ind., Mrs. Emma Hamilton and Mrs. Hattie Cleckner, of Angola, together with sixteen grandchildren and thirty-eight great grandchildren survive her. These four daughters ministered most tenderly to her every want in her last few months of sickness and intense suffering. Although a great sufferer, yet she was patient withal and daily waited with patience for the good Father to call her home. Her patience in suffering and her faith in the richness and fullness of the love and mercy of God will ever remain as a sacred memorial to her children and her children's children, pointing them to the joy and comfort that comes to all who serve Him in spirit and in truth.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. H.S. Nickerson at the South Scott church, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Six of the grandsons acted as pallbearers. Thus another pioneer has been added to the silent throng, but her true worth as a mother, neighbor and friend will ever be cherished in many hearts.
