Jesse Woods Fisher was a Yuma Valley cattleman, widely known throughout the southwest as a cattle buyer. Born in Uvalde, Texas to Rev. Orceneth Asbury Fisher and Mary Susan Simons Fisher, he moved to Yuma in 1917. He purchased cattle throughout Arizona and Southern California.

In 1935, he announced his candidacy for the Yuma justice of the peace. He became ill while campaigning before the primary and passed away in the hospital in Loma Linda, California.

Jesse was married to Kate Warren Wentworth. He and Kate had two daughters, Mattie Ola Fisher Power and Kathleen Mary "Kay" Fisher Noonan; and five sons; Chester Newell Fisher, Sidney Fly Fisher, Jesse Woods Fisher, Jr., Milam Travis Fisher and William Murray Fisher. Jesse was preceded in death by sons, William Murray Fisher and Chester Newell Fisher.


J.W. Fisher, 63-year-old Yuma valley cattleman, widely known throughout the southwest as a cattle buyer, died shortly at 11 o'clock last night at Loma Linda sanitarium following an illness of double pneumonia contracted early in the fall, relatives announced.

Funeral services will be held from the O.C. Johnson chapel at 4:30 p.m. Friday. Interment will take place in the Yuma cemetery.
